Teacher’s Preparation:
a) Using the internet browser, find:
i. Picture of the planet earth
ii. Google Maps webpage
iii. Website about some interesting places around the world
iv. A video on how to use Google Maps
b) Provide several marker pens and mahjong paper
c) Prepare a worksheet to recap the previous lesson

Previous Knowledge: Students have learned the rules and the examples of prepositions of directions during the previous class.
Stage | Teaching Instruction |
Set Induction (15 min) | 1. Teacher greets the students and recaps the previous lesson on preposition explicitly. 2. Teacher shows a picture of the Earth on the board using the slide projector. 3. Teacher asks a few questions about the planet Earth. a. Places that they want to visit b. If we can go to any places on Earth, what should we do? 4. Teacher provides descriptions on the use of map and its significances to people generally. 5. Beside of using traditional maps that printed on the papers, teacher asks the students if they are familiar with other alternative of technologies which provide the use of maps. 6. Teacher asks the students to search (at least 3) for the alternative gadgets using the internet browsers and write down their answers on the whiteboard with little descriptions. Example: a. GPS b. Navigator c. Smart phones 7. Teacher responds to the students’ answer and discuss briefly. 8. Teacher introduces students with the topic of the lesson, “Getting Direction” |
Development (60 min) | Activity 1. 1. Teacher shows a video on YouTube on “Google Maps Introduction”. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADbeCHQLUpk) 2. Teacher asks students to open up the Google Maps webpage using any internet browsers available and teaches them how to use it explicitly. 3. Teacher comes up with several interesting places in Malaysia and inquires students to search for the maps of the selected places using GM. ( Pavilion, Gunung Kinabalu, Mabul Island etc) 4. Teacher asks students opinions of using GM and discuss about it. Activity 2. 1. Teacher asks the students to form a group consists of 5 members. 2. Teacher calls up the team leaders one by one and asks them to pick an exciting place at the nearby district that teacher has decided 3.Teacher explains clearly of what the students need to do. a. Using GM, the team needs to find the selected place on the map and the routes used. b. After finding the routes used, the team needs to come up with a direction based on the maps using the words of prepositions. c. Later, each group will send a representative to read the direction in front the class. d. Upon hearing the direction given by the representative, the other teams have to draw a map out of the direction on the mahjong paper given by the teacher. e. Each group will show their maps in front of the classroom and the winning group will be determined based on details and the precise of map based on the directions given from each group. f. Before the students start the activity, teacher will provide a map and mock up direction for better understanding. |
Conclusion (5 min) | 1. Teacher recaps the lesson in front of the class. 2. Teacher asks the students’ understanding about the topic to assess their understanding. 3. Teacher discusses the moral values they learn on the lesson. |
Follow up activity:
Students are required to draw a map of the streets from their houses to school. The maps can be either as precise as GM or based on their creativity. Along with the map, the students are required to identify at least 2 routes from the map and choose only 1 route with the shortest and most interesting path to school and stated the reasons in an essay-form of one paragraph.
